Oru Seco | Bata scores

Author

Adrian Coburg

Description

Oru Seco is the Bata drum cycle, without songs. Adrian Coburg’s transcription book of Afro-Cuban Bata scores contains basic Bata rhythm patterns and additional solo parts. These are principal Bata scores to be played as the opening of religious ceremonies. The Bata rhythms are presented in a definite order to call the Orishas. Adrian Coburg’s collection opens with Elegua and ends with Oddua, which is the order traditionally played at ceremonies in Havana. It is preserved and transmitted in oral heritage by Santero Julio Davalos (“Awó Chadeé”) to Adrian Coburg (“Otruponka”, “Omo aña ewue Osain”).
